I've always believed one of the best things about living in Nashville is how close we are to the Cumberland River. It's right there, winding through the heart of the city, yet most of us don't take advantage of it nearly as much as we could. That's why I'm genuinely excited about everything happening over at Rock Harbor Marina in West Nashville.
It's not just a marina anymore, it's becoming one of those rare riverfront spots where locals and visitors alike can relax, explore, and actually connect with the water and the community around it.
A Nashville Classic with a Fresh Start
If you've lived here for a while, you probably know Rock Harbor has been part of Nashville's story for decades. And if you've ever grabbed a bite at Blue Moon Waterfront Grille, then you know exactly what I mean when I say it's got its own easygoing charm.
Blue Moon has seen it all, floods, rebuilds, long summer nights packed with people soaking up that riverside energy and it's not going anywhere. In fact, it's about to benefit from all the exciting upgrades happening around it.
Big Plans for the Riverfront
Here's what's coming, thanks to the team at The Prescott Group, who bought the property back in 2021. They're adding new boat slips ranging from 30 to 55 feet, which means even more life and activity along the docks. Extra parking is on the way (a huge relief for anyone who's tried to visit on a sunny Saturday), along with upgraded boater amenities to make life on the water easier. There will also be new commercial spaces for restaurants, local shops, and waterfront rentals, everything from boats and kayaks to jet skis. And to tie it all together, Rock Harbor will feature fresh gathering spots like a food truck area, a sunset watchpoint, and beautiful green spaces perfect for relaxing. Altogether, it's shaping up to be more than just a marina, it's becoming a true riverfront destination where you can spend an entire day enjoying the water.
What's Already Taking Shape
The best part? This isn't just another "coming soon" promise, things are already happening.
There's a dockside market open now, stocked with snacks, drinks, and boating essentials. Rock Harbor has also partnered with Nautical Boat Club and Boat Rental Nashville, which means even if you don't own a boat, you can still get out there and enjoy the water.
With nearly 29 acres of facilities and 150 slips already in operation, Rock Harbor stands as Nashville's only full-service marina right on the Cumberland, a huge asset that's only getting better.

For me, this project is about so much more than new docks or retail spaces. It's about giving Nashville a chance to reconnect with the river that's always been part of its identity.
I love the idea of a place where you can grab dinner, meet friends, watch the sunset, or rent a kayak, all without leaving the city. Even better, Rock Harbor is doing it in a way that respects its history. Blue Moon isn't going anywhere; it's simply becoming part of an even bigger story.
The Cumberland River has always been here, quietly shaping our city's rhythm. And now, Rock Harbor is stepping into the spotlight as a space for all of us to enjoy it.
If you haven't been lately, consider this your sign to check it out. I know I'll be spending a lot more time by the water and something tells me I won't be the only one.
