Nashville is known as the heart of country music, but the city has plenty to offer beyond honky-tonks and live shows. We aren't all music ya know?! From museums and scenic parks to historic spots and easygoing family dining, it's a place that works well for visitors of all ages. Whether your kids are into music, exploring new places, or just up for a simple adventure, there are plenty of ways to keep them interested. Here's a relaxed guide, mixed with some personal favorites, to spending 72 hours in Music City with the whole family. Let's go y'all!!!
Day One: Down Town and Music City Highlights
Morning: One of our go-to ways to start the day is with a hearty breakfast at Biscuit Love or Frothy Monkey, two Nashville favorites that serve up delicious, kid-friendly options. Head to the Frothy Monkey in 12 South and make sure to take your picture at the mural.
Late Morning: Want to mix a little learning with entertainment? Head to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Trust me... it's worth it! Kids love the interactive exhibits, listening stations, and fun memorabilia, while adults enjoy exploring Nashville's rich music history. I promise you will learn things you never knew about the country music greats!
Afternoon: Take a walk across the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge for stunning skyline views and plenty of photo opportunities, which is what most of our photo storage is dedicated to. Watch the river boat, see the stadium, and just explore. Then stop by Broadway...Yep... because you HAVE to! It's a Nashville must. While the honky-tonks are popular at night, daytime visits are family-friendly and perfect for the whole family. Try on the country boots... put on the hat... and head over to Savannah's Candy Kitchen! Trust me... adults will find nostalgia...and the kids will find EVERYTHING!
Evening: Enjoy dinner at Puckett's Grocery & Restaurant, known for its Southern comfort food. If the family is up for it, catch a matinee at Ryman Auditorium for a music show suitable for kids. If you can't stay for the show, at least take some pics and explore The Mother Church! Bonus points if you find out why it's called that.
Day 2: Outdoor Fun & Neighborhood Adventures
Morning: After a stack of pancakes at The Pancake Pantry (but be ready for the line, just warning you now), head to Centennial Park to see the Parthenon replica, explore the walking paths, and let the kids play in open spaces. Find out why we are called The Athens of the South!
Afternoon: We recommend taking the time to visit the Adventure Science Center, a hands-on STEM museum perfect for curious kids and teens. Exhibits cover everything from space to physics, making learning fun for the whole family. And as an adult, it kind of reminds me of our old field trips back in the day!
Evening: Dinner at The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden, a casual spot with fantastic burgers and root beer floats for the kids. End the day with a stroll around 12 South, checking out colorful murals and local shops.
And if everyone has been extra good all day... skip the beer floats and head to Legendary's for one of the most iconic desserts you've ever experienced. I would suggest sharing! I scream, you scream... We all scream for ice cream!!
Day 3: History & Unique Experiences
Morning: Start with a brunch local favorite at Milk & Honey, then visit the Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery. While adults enjoy the historic tour, kids can see farm animals and horses on the grounds. Think absolute country living at its finest, that you just can't miss.
Afternoon: Want to take in some natural scenery? Explore Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. The art exhibits, walking trails, and seasonal events offer something for all ages. The scenery alone will make you want to start planning your next visit. And if you are ever here at Christmas, you are in for a real treat!! Something very special.
Evening: Wrap up your fun-filled Nashville adventure with a Cumberland River Pedal Boat ride or a visit to the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, a perfect way for kids to burn off energy before heading home. Because who doesn't love a good road trip home nap!
Insider Tips and Tricks
Nashville has a lot of little surprises that make it a great place for families. The trick is to hit the popular spots early and pace your days so you're not worn out by lunchtime. Downtown has plenty to see, but some of the best memories come from just wandering, finding a quiet park, stopping at a local shop, or grabbing something to eat at a neighborhood spot. Fall is the best time to visit... but anytime you can make memories with your family is the perfect time!
If you ask locals where they take their kids to burn off some energy, Cumberland Park and Shelby Bottoms Greenway always come up. Depending on the season, you might even catch a farmers' market, street fair, or outdoor concert along the way. Bringing a few basics, snacks, water, sunscreen, maybe a stroller, makes the day go a lot smoother. And honestly, some of the best moments come from the little things you stumble on, like a colorful mural, a hidden playground, or a stop for ice cream. Isn't it nice when the unplanned parts of a trip end up being the most memorable?
